Powerhouses Daily Paper and Off-WhiteTM join forces with social collective Surf Ghana and spatial design studio Limbo Accra to create Freedom Skate Park, Ghana's very first fully functional skate park in the heart of Accra. As part of their Beyond The Return pop-up in Ghana, Daily Paper is releasing a capsule collection with Surf Ghana and an exclusive collaborative tee with Off-WhiteTM that will be available for sale with 100% of the proceeds going to the construction of the skatepark. One of only 10 skateparks in all of Africa, Freedom Skate Park plans to begin construction in the first quarter of 2021 and open later that year - ushering in a new day in African sport and creative life.

Behind the Collab

For years, Surf Ghana has almost singlehandedly nurtured Ghana’s budding skate community. For the creative youth in Ghana, skating has become a lifeline, but with a lack of funding and support the sport has been struggling to gain a foothold on the continent.

At Daily Paper, we believe that sport has the power to transform communities for the better and open so many doors for the youth. So it was only natural that we’d do everything in our power to make Ghana’s first skate park a reality.

Ghana has always held a special place for us, with one of our founders being Ghanaian. It’s a connection we share with Off-White™ founder Virgil Abloh, which emboldened us to create this partnership for Ghana’s budding skate scene.

Three collectives, one vision. The impact will speak for itself. If you’d like to contribute to the construction of Freedom Skate Park you can still donate here.

Product of Ghana

Comprised of two tees, with our Off-White™ collab we paid homage to Ghana’s longstanding cocoa harvesting tradition by reclaiming the industry’s “Product of Ghana” slogan. And Virgil Abloh’s signature arrow branding was adorned in cocoa pods and leaves. Appropriately, this collaborative tee was realized in “Decadent Chocolate” or classic white.

Freedom and Skate

Our co-branded capsule with Surf Ghana also flipped signature Ghanaian emblems into powerful emblems for the grassroots skate movement across a T-shirt, a long-sleeved top, and a bucket hat. Made of 100 percent cotton, the Daily Paper x Surf Ghana pieces are emblazoned with “FREEDOM AND SKATE” text – a play on Ghana’s “Freedom and Justice” motto. All proceeds of both capsules went towards building the Freedom Skate Park in Accra, Ghana.
